Fronted by the ever-engaging Lee Shupp on vocals, the Bohemian Luv Jones were an entertaining live act to encounter in 1987-88 San Francisco, and I was delighted to briefly be involved. A campy Cab Calloway in swampy burlesque, veering into 60's garage, Brando v Stella, or Art Punk - whichever, all posed and fun. Often, they featured 3 horns, and sometimes female backing singers. Guitarist Brad Orgeron (aka Jack Orion) compiled a 21-track Bohemian Luv Jones Bandcamp album called "Aces Wild"; furthermore there are nine video performances on YouTube...I glimpse myself in one. Ophelias fan Brad O recruited me on trumpet and I recall playing three high energy shows with BLJ in early 1987. And somehow I recorded about 20 minutes of this Valentine's Day show on my mini-Sony cassette recorder. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this may be the best-sounding Bohemian Luv Jones recording of all! Good Graciousness! —Leslie Medford

about

LESLIE MEDFORD Oakland, California

Leslie Medford is a dude from a world that no longer exists! The two bands he led 1984-1991 have their own bandcamp pages under The Ophelias and HighHorse. Medford was a busy fellow during his pro period (1982-1992) and this site covers solo things & side projects from as early as 1975 and as recent as 2004.There is tremendous variety here, of a high standard of idea, if not always execution.Enjoy! ... more
