"You're only allowed two minutes in rock'n'roll . . . we already blew it," Medford drawls laconically, mere moments after he and Immerglück have blasted through a truly unhinged opener of 'There's a Bell/Clash of the Titans'---and he speaks true. Though, it would be false to suggest that "rock'n'roll" is all the Ophelias bring to the table. And, indeed, this acoustic setting lays bare the flames burning beneath the bric-a-brac of even the Ophes' most folksy numbers. Even deprived of his Marshall stack, Immerglück sets fire to his fretboard, unleashing guitar pyrotechnics on unsuspecting listeners of 'Apron Strings' and 'Southeast Asian American Blues.' Medford, meanwhile does his usual vocal gamut-run, sprinting from Peter Hammill-esque punk fury to fey preciosity and back again (often in the same song). And what's with the sound, man? Did they record this on the moon? You're damned right.

So turn up the volume, turn off the lights, and let the music blast you into space; you'll be in good company.
